I'm hungry!!

Why am I so hungry today? Well, today marks the end of the 4th week that Andrew & I started a new workout routine. Time to get our beach bodies on! It isn't that we haven't been active in the past. A few years ago we both lost a considerable amount of weight and were looking and feeling great. We've had our ups and downs, but we've been pretty consistent over the past two years. This time though, we wanted to get really serious. Really. We have both recently read and been motivated by Jack Lalanne's Live Young Forever. What an inspiration that man is! After reading his book, we have found it tougher to wake up in the morning and not want to work out. And not just for the way we LOOK, but for how it makes us FEEL. We have very busy lives. Some days are stressful. But when I've had a great workout in the morning, the rest of my day is remarkably better and easier to handle. I am ready to take on the world! Or at least about eight kids. :) And last but certainly not least, there's the long term reasons. I want to have many happy and healthy years with my kids! I want to be able to play with my grandkids some day! I'm not going to be able to do that if I don't take care of myself NOW.

And so it began...

5:00AM, five mornings a week. Days 1 & 3 are half weight training and half cardio. Days 2 & 4 are cardio only, usually a 5K on the treadmill, or a hilly run around the neighborhood. Day 5 is a full hour of weight training. And if we can, we'll squeeze in a Day 6.

This week we added something new and FUN in to the mix. A hike. We've decided to do a hike once a week now. It was amazing to get a GREAT workout in the beautiful outdoors. And to reach the top of a mountain and be rewarded with an amazing view- that was a beautiful gift.

We don't own a scale. I threw it away a few months ago when I realized how off it was. I'll admit, I'm a little curious about how much I weigh. But it's really not about that silly little number. It's about how you feel! If you feel great and you feel like you look GREAT, that's what it's about!

So yes, today I am hungry because I have given my metabolism a swift kick in the rear! But mostly I'm hungry to breathe in all that this life has to offer. I'm hungry for the FULL enjoyment of my husband and children. And in satisfying my hunger, I hope that I can spread some of this savory goodness of motivation with others. My wish is that everyone would get HUNGRY! :)
